Normally, I pop in some of these YouTube videos into the "Video Drive-In." If you didn't know, you can click a link at the top of the page, or if you're on mobile, you can click the 3 horizontal lines in the top left of the page and select "Video Drive-In" from there to see a selection of free youTube videos that go along with the topics covered here on the main page.
I haven't been using the Drive-In as much lately, so I figured I'd make a regular post about some of the can't miss "Halloween classics" from YesterYear.
Long-time readers know I love Elvira, so don't be surprised to see her here twice!
I promise to get back into posting regularly on the Drive-In page. After watching all of this great Halloween content below, check out the video archives in the Drive-In!
Deemed too "racy" for television audiences in 1993 by CBS executives, this unaired pilot is available on YouTube for your viewing pleasure! In it, Elvira has moved to Manhattan, Kansas. Alongside her Aunt Minerva and their talking cat, she works as a fortune teller that sells fake potions on the side.
2. Garfield's Halloween Adventure (1985)
Garfield and Odie go off in search of trick-or-treating candy adventures but find more than they bargained for. Last year, I wrote up a brief synopsis of the classic cartoon Halloween special that can be read by CLICKING HERE. The entire episode is now available on the official Garfield YouTube channel.
3. MTV's Headbanger's Ball Halloween Special featuring Alice Cooper (1989)
Alice Cooper hosted this one-time traditional show on MTV, promoting the Wes Craven slasher movie "Shocker." Headbanger's Ball was once one of MTV's most popular shows, featuring heavy metal music videos from MTV's video library. In this, Alice Cooper hosted guests Dave Mustaine, Iggy Pop, and the main character of "Shocker" Horace Pinker, played by Mitch Pileggi. The YouTube clip doesn't have any of the music videos but it does have all of the great interstitial scenes. I can't quite put my finger on what exactly makes this particular episode a classic, but if you'll watch you'll understand!
4. Elvira's Halloween Special (1986)
Elvira's Halloween Special is a 1986 TV special for MTV hosted by Elvira, Mistress of the Dark and Queen of Halloween. The special included skits with Elvira as well as popular MTV music videos. The Halloween Special was a four hour production but with the music videos edited out, this one is only 45 minutes on YouTube. This one is a treat to watch and maybe my favorite of the list!
5. The Paul Lynde Halloween Special (1976)
Often compared to the terribly good Star Wars Christmas Special, the Paul Lynde Halloween Special is a train wreck worth watching. Paul Lynde, famous for "Bewitched" and "Hollywood Squares," leads a cast of wacky guest stars that include KISS and Betty White. It's fanbase has only grown since the mid 70's and with each passing year, it seems to get more and more popular... and more and more funny!
