Retro RePost: Salute Your Shorts

If we're going to kick off Camp YesterYear on Monday morning, there's no better way to get in the mood than by learning something about the hit 90s kids show from Nickelodeon about summer camp, Salute Your Shorts!

"Salute Your Shorts" is a beloved sitcom that aired on Nickelodeon from 1991 to 1992.  Set in the fictional summer camp of Camp Anawanna, the show revolves around a group of mischievous teenage campers.  Camp Counselor Kevin "Ug" Lee (get it?), the show follows the teens as they navigate the challenges of summer camp, from strict camp rules to forming friendships or rivalries.

The quirky characters and relatable situations captured the hearts of my generation of kids in the 90s.  It's remembered for its humorous and relatable storytelling, capturing the essence of summer camp fun.  Even 32 years after its original airing, the show continues to be cherished by fans as a nostalgic icon of Nickelodoen's golden age of programming.

This story went semi-viral when it was first posted to The Retro Network during the summer of 2020.  Venus DeMilo Thomas, the actress that played Telly Radford, even commented on TRN's Instagram post!
