Back in the early days of Nickelodeon and Nick-at-Nite, the network was not afraid to try outside-the-box ideas. In 1991, one of those ideas was to launch a new sitcom based on classic television of the 1950s and 60s, titled "Hi Honey, I'm Home."
I've written a lot in the past few months about Nick-at-Nite (you can also check out the Nick-at-Nite section under my "Collections" tab for more), and it's made me think a lot about this short-lived series.
During the summer of 1991, "Hi Honey, I'm Home" aired Friday evenings on ABC before being re-run on Nick-at-Nite during the weekend. My family adored the show, and I spent much of the summer laughing along with Mom and Dad at this innovative series.
As a kid, we always took a two-week-long vacation in Maine every summer with our extended family. It would take nearly a whole roll of tin foil on the rabbit ears, but we'd be able to get two or three stations from Portland or Boston. In 1991, I was pretty obsessed with this show, and we were able to watch two episodes of "Hi Honey, I'm Home" from Maine.
Since then, in my mind, I've always associated this show with our summer vacations in Maine.
Because of that, I thought it would be a great chance to RePost this article during Camp YesterYear from 2020 about one of Nick-at-Nite's attempts at new "classic" content creation.
