Turns out the whole thing is fake.
It also turned out I wasn't the only one who thought it was real.
This year, we figured my daughter was old enough to watch Home Alone for the first time, and she loved it! Doing so reminded me of this article, and I figured now is as good a time as any.

Omg… one of my students (who’s like 10 and was born like 20+ years after the movie came out) was saying “Merry Christmas, ya filthy animal” over and over the last week before winter break!

DeleteAnyway, yes - I caught the reference immediately. That kid always brings up random pop culture stuff from WAY before his time, so we have a lot of fun with that. Sometimes he’ll bring something up in front of the whole class and usually none of the other students have any idea what we’re talking about. =P
